Day 102: Pitbull Secret Santa gift

Day 102:
Sorry I've fallen so behind on the Pokeddexy challenge. I'm gonna keep doing it, no worries. I've just had a lot on my plate recently is all!

The art department of my job is doing a secret santa art trade thing. Unfortunately, I only started recently so I don't know my co-workers incredibly well yet, and all I really know about the girl I got was that she really likes and has a pitbull... Sooo... This is what I'm giving her. I hope she likes it. Wish me luck! Expect Pokeddexy updates soon!

Day 101: Pokeddexy Day 6- Blaziken

Day 101:

I, uhhh, seem to have fallen a bit behind with these. No worries though. I'll catch up. Eventually...

Pokeddexy Challenge day 6: Favorite fighting type.
I chose Blaziken. Something about a 6'2'' fighting fire chicken is just really cool to me for some reason.

Day 100: Pokeddexy Day 5- Togekiss

Day 100:
Pokeddexy Challenge day 5: Favorite fairy type.

I'm not a huge fan of most of the fairies, but I've ALWAYS loved Togekiss. I remember I used him in the first mini-tourney I ever participated in and he wiped the floor with a good number of players with the combination of thunder wave, air slash and the ability serene grace. They were all pretty mad. That was a great day.

Oh, and as an added bonus I added a sketch of sort of what I was hoping spritzee would evolve into (Or something along these lines anyway).

I was really hoping he would turn into some sort of cool plague doctor Pokemon. But instead it turned out it turns into... Aromatisse... Eugh..

Day 99: Pokeddexy Day 4 Ampharos

Day 99:
Wellp. Looks like I'm late with my submission once again. This whole 9-6 thing really makes time management hard. Oh well, I'm enjoying my job so I really can't complain.

Pokeddexy Challenge Day 4: Favorite Electric Pokemon.

I chose Ampharos. Ampharos really was one of those pokemon that was love at first sight for me. I don't know why, but I find this dude so charming, even if I really have no idea what the heck he's supposed to be. I always sort of assumed he was some sort of jeweled dinosaur.

The first time I played Gold I also had the little story in my head that it was the dream of my Ampharos to become one of the night's stars. I always he imagined he lived a very sad existence, always smiling so no one would know. I really don't know why I thought I had a depressed Ampharos when I was 10, I just did okay?
Anyways, that was the inspiration for today's entry.

Day 98: Pokeddexy Day 3 Hydreigon

Day 98:
Okay, now lets pretend I posted THIS one yesterday!

Day 3 of the Pokeddexy challenge: Favorite Dragon Pokemon.
I chose Hydreigon. I loved this dude from the second I saw him. The only thing that kinda bothers me about him is his weird nerve-ending feet. Oh well. I drew him casting draco meteor because why not. c:
Also, sorry I keep doing these in this sort of scratch-boardy style. I just missed doing this kinda work and I haven't in a while. (Also, I only have a few hours a day to myself after work, so I usually just go with the first idea I have for the final look.) I promise I'll vary it up from time to time.

Day 97: Pokeddexy Day 2 Honchkrow

Day 97:

Ugh, I fell asleep after getting home from work the other night so I didn't get time to finish this. I wish I could have restarted it, but I don't want to get behind and I still need to draw my entry for day 3 of the pokemon challenge before the night's over. But yeah. Lets just pretend I submitted this on the 2nd.

Anyways:

Day 2 of the Pokeddexy challenge: Favorite Dark type.

My entry was Honchkrow.

Day 96: Pokeddexy 1 Heracross

Day 96:
I've decided to do the December Pokemon challenge thing that's going around tumblr for fun and to get out of the drawing rut I've been in for the last week. Also, my girlfriend gave me Pokemon Y for my Birthday and it's probably the best Pokemon game I've played in a long time.

Anyways, my first submission is a bit late but here we go:

Day 1- Favorite Bug type.

Mine is Heracross.

Day 92: Perspective in portraits study

Day 92:
I've been doing nothing but character design portfolio work for the past week or so, so I wanted to just to a quick portrait study for fun.

Normally I wouldn't construct a drawing this way, but I'm not very confident with perspective, so I was hoping maybe doing this would make me maybe slightly better.

Day 91: Portrait study

Day 91:
I found some pretty interesting fine art brushes and decided to do a study with them. I think I like 'em!

Day 90: Knocked Out In The Deep

Day 90:
So, I got an e-mail suggesting that I might have gotten a table at CTNX the day before yesterday! Unfortunately, that meant I'd only have about a day to make my entry for the sketchbook! This is what I submitted minus a few hours of work and with some text. It's related to the story I'm developing for my portfolio!

Day 89: Giant Salamanders, Deep-sea sketches and Abe Sapien

Day 89:

Haven't posted any sketchbook pages in a while have I? Lets change that!

The first two pages were made because I wanted to better understand some things I'm gonna need to draw in an upcoming project. The last just exists because Abe Sapien is ridiculously fun to draw.

Day 88: Armor Study

Day 88:
I worked way too long on this study going back and forth with it. Working on and off on it. I’ve gotten way too backed up with my work schedule because I’ve been procrastinating on working on this thing. Anyways, I’m sick of working on it. I think I’ve learned just about everything I can from it anyways. Next time I do an armor study like this I’m going to have to make sure to use better reference…

Day 87: Don't Stop Me Now

Day 87:
"..I'm a shooting star leaping through the skies. Like a Tiger defying the laws of gravity..."

I've been listening to  "Don't Stop Me Now" for like eight hours today... I don't know why or how it happened, but I'm not complaining...

Day 86: Pen and Ink Dorbermans and Jackals

Day 86:
I got a really great new nib for my croquill, so I decided to do some quick pen and ink studies for fun. I haven't worked with pen and ink in forever, so it was really enjoyable to go back to it! It makes me wonder why I don't work at it more...

Day 85: Pachisefeloostrich

Day 85:

In a bit of a rut now that I’ve graduated art school. Here’s an attempt to try and work through it.

... I'm a bit rusty...

Day 84: Blathers

Day 84:
Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I have a bunch of stuff sitting around just waiting to be finished but... For some reason I'm having trouble finishing them...

In the meantime, have a doodle of Blathers. I miss his blathering from the past games. Animal Crossing: New Leaf just doesn't feel right without it...

Day 83: Redhead study

Day 83:
This picture was on my USB drive and I thought I'd do a study of it... I wish it would've had more interesting lighting, but it's nice to practice being subtle every once in a while too... Even if I'm not great at it... Also tried a new brush with this. It was interesting to test out but it takes a bit too long to build up and smooth things out with it in my opinion. I probably won't be using it again.

Day 82: Portrait Study

Day 82:
I've had this photo on my desktop for a few months now and I've been meaning to do a study based off it. Since I'm currently procrastinating from oil painting, I thought it was as good a time as ever... I wish I could have spent more time on it though...

Also tried out a new brush with this!

Day 81: Albino Crocodile study

Day 81:

Digital study for an oil painting I’m making. Albinos are kind of hard to paint…

It’s still pretty rough, but I’ve spent too much time on this anyway since I’m never gonna really actually use it for much

Day 80: Poaching

Day 80:

Been tweaking this one for a little while. It's about poaching, just in case you're wondering.

I wanted to take a more flat approach with this since I got a little tired of only doing digital paintings all the time.

Day 79: Pizza Journey

Day 79:
Man, do I ever have one hell of a pizza addiction… It’s seriously becoming a problem…

Friday, March 22, 2013

Day 76: Mamma Bear

Day 76:

Quick study of one of my favorite things ever: Bears. I mostly made it to help cheer myself up.
I should probably finish this, but I’d rather do more studies.
Based off of Sergei Gladyshev’s photo “The Protector” (at least, that’s what I think it’s called.)

Day 75: Preaching Mantis

Day 75:
Something I made this Semester.
It uhh… Didn’t go over too well in critique. I’ll go back and work on it more someday… Someday…

If I had been smart I would've done the study I uploaded yesterday BEFORE I painted this... Lesson learned, I guess...

Day 74: Mantis study and digital life drawing

Day 74:
Man, I feel terrible that I haven't updated this place in so long. My logic has been that I should only upload stuff onto here that I'd show to potential employers, but then I realized that that's stupid since I should probably make either a blog or a website JUST for my portfolio anyways.

So, to get back on track, here’s a mantis study and a digital painting I made from life. They took 1 hr and 30 mins respectively.
